Welcome to Olbutyo Girls'
Olbutyo Girls’ is a county boarding school located in Chepalungu sub-county of Bomet county. The school was separated from the former Olbutyo Mixed Secondary School in 2012. After separation, the girls’ school was given a third of divisible resources of the mother school which became a critical foundation for its growth. To be specific, the girls’school was given two permanent classrooms, one science laboratory and two semi-permanent structures. Upon attaining a fully fledged girls Secondary School status, the management earnestly began the process of building the in different aspects beginning with provision of extra physical resources so that in a span of eight years, fourteen extra classrooms, kitchen, multipurpose hall and three extra semi-permanent dormitories were developed.
The school has developed modern structures and has a bakery and a maize flour milling plant which has provided employment to the neighbouring community. The student enrollment has been consistently increasing to the current population of 1,100 girls from a paltry 402 learners in 2018. Similarly, the academic performance has also been improving consistently thereby enabling most students to transit to institutions of higher learning.
The teaching and learning experiences are supported by a team of 40 teachers; 14 of whom are employed by the Teachers Service Commission and the rest employed by the Board of Management. The teachers’ efforts are complimented by 25 essential staff who have are instrumental in ensuring that a conducive environment is created for the girls’. The school is managed by the constituted Board of Management as per the Basic Education Act and supported by the school principal, Parents’ Association, heads of departments and the student council.
